Does this game have a Switch 2 update?
Some Switch 1 games run better on Switch 2. Sometimes free, sometimes a paid upgrade.
What it means
This is a different question from what's on the cartridge, which is why we colour it differently — blue, not the green-to-red ladder. It's information, not a judgement about the game.
Three things can happen. A free update improves the game on Switch 2 at no cost — usually framerate, resolution, load times. A Switch 2 Edition is a paid upgrade, sometimes with added content, sometimes only performance. Or nothing happens: the game runs in compatibility mode as it always did.
One case is easy to misread. Some cartridges list an available update that only changes anything on Switch 2 — on Switch 1 the cartridge is already complete. We mark those specifically, because otherwise a Switch 1 owner sees "update available" and reasonably assumes they're missing something.
Before you buy
- A paid Switch 2 Edition is a separate purchase from the cartridge. Owning the card doesn't entitle you to it.
- Check whether the Switch 2 version is its own physical release — sometimes it is, and sometimes that release is a game-key card.
